Jackie Boy Jenkins started ski school this morning. In Jackson Hole it is the first real competitively structured activity for little ones. As some 30+ local kids descended upon the Kids Ranch, I was nervous as to how the years of ski training would translate to his first day among his peers.
He collected his skis from us and was swept off with his grouping of kids and over to the magic carpet they went. He was a trooper in saying good bye as Mom was worried about not being able to watch over him all day or at least through trusted sources. Dad was nervous he might stumble out of the gate.
Needless to say he nailed the three tight turns and a stop at the bottom. I was reassured our ski training was paying dividends and he was not going to the back of the line. Off he went in the trailer with his classmates attached to a snowmobile up the mountain. Off we walked hoping he’d have a fulfilling day and the doubling down on daycare was going to be worth it.
I would have to admit I was having trouble letting him be taught by others something that we shared solely together. But I guess that comes with age and the time is flying by.
